School may have started almost two months ago, but it still feels like summer outside. Next spring, and prom season with it, seems like along time from now. Thankfully for area high school girls, our fashion director Rebekah Krsak has been thinking about prom all summer, traveling to Atlanta in August for Prom Market.
While at market, Krsak attends numerous fashion shows by all the designers the boutique carries and then decides which dresses to order for next spring, from thousands of various styles to an entire rainbow of colors.
“Neon is the BIG thing this year it seems,” Krsak said. “We saw lots of neon, feathers and sequins. Designers have really done some interesting things with straps, incorporating some really interesting details on the backs of dresses. Some new fabrics we’re seeing are an iridescent, glittery jersey material and lame’, which is a really, shiny material.
“As far as colors go, in addition to the neon, we saw the usual pastels and jewel-tones and Sherri Hill had an animal print. There will be plenty of long-sleeve options, as well as ball gowns and A-line styles. There were lots of fun, over-the-top dresses, but we also saw a trend of simple and un-embellished dresses. These tend to be for girls who want that more classic, elegant look.”
Something Blue is planning to carry spring formal lines from designers Sherri Hill, Primavera, Alyce, Colette and a plus-size only line,Sydney’s Closet. In addition to the hundreds of gowns already in the store, Krsak has ordered around 300 new dresses for prom, which should start arriving around the end of the year.
The boutique registers every dress, so only one girl from each area high school can purchase any given style. This ensures girls can rock their own unique look on the big night! Early birds get first pick, so stop by Something Blue after the new year to check out our 2020 prom dresses.
